FilmAid: Connecting Youth Across the Globe When Hurricane Katrina tore through the Gulf Coast, FilmAid responded. We brought much needed entertainment and diversion to people displaced in Louisiana. The Power of Film: A Lifeline of Hope On October 16, FilmAid held our inaugural Power of Film Gala in New York City. It was an evening of inspiration and celebration honoring Ambassador Richard Holbrooke and award-winning producer Jane Rosenthal, in whose names scholarships to study communications will be given to two deserving refugees. A highlight of the evening was the screening of scenes from the film, “God Grew Tired of Us,” which documents the transition to America of three “lost boys of Sudan.” One of those featured in the film, John Dau, inspired the sold- out audience. Heeding the Call: FilmAid Changes Lives Initially a simple idea to provide diversion and entertainment to Kosovar refugees in Macedonia in 1999, FilmAid is now an integral component of the psycho-social and health services for tens of thousands of men, women and children living in refugee camps in Kenya and Tanzania.
